At bedtime, the 81-year-old woman turned to her 83-year-old husband and said, “Honey, I think the garage light’s on. Could you get up and turn it off for me?”
The old man, already cocooned in blankets like a burrito, grumbled, “Oh, for goodness’ sake, you just looked out the window. Now you want me to go out there? Why don’t you turn it off yourself?”
“Because I can’t! You know my hip, and besides, I’ve already done enough today. You promised to take care of things like this,” she replied, batting her eyelashes in the most convincing way a woman of her age could.
With great difficulty, the old man got out of bed, opened the door, and went outside. He saw five or six burglars tampering with the garage door. He immediately called the police station.
“Hello, I need help! There are five or six burglars trying to break into my garage!” he said in a panic. “Please send someone quickly!”
The dispatcher, clearly less enthusiastic than the old man, replied in a bored tone, “Sir, we’ve got a lot of calls right now, and no police teams are available at the moment. But don’t worry, we’ve taken down your address, and we’ll send someone as soon as we can.”
Frustrated, the old man watched the burglars struggling with the garage locks. Two minutes later, he called the police station again:
"Listen... there's no need to send anyone now. I’ve shot all five of them."
The police station erupted in chaos. Within five minutes, a police team arrived in the street with a helicopter, paramedics, three doctors, and two ambulances. Soon, they had the five criminals under control, completely unharmed. The police swiftly arrested all five of them.
